Adventure Access Program

Free and accessible outdoor recreation opportunities for students with disabilities.

Introduction:

The Adventure Access program was developed to address the distinct lack of recreation programming for students with disabilities on campus. This program, a part of Outdoor Adventures at Campus Recreation, runs 2-3 trips, activities or classes every quarter, specifically designed for students with disabilities. We partner with other campus groups such as Redwood SEEDs, the Veteran’s Success Center, and the Student Disability Center to provide access to as many students as possible. Our aim is to provide students with the opportunity to try something new, learn different ways to be physically fit, and make social connections with fellow students. Programming includes rock climbing, whitewater rafting, and camping, throughout the school year and is completely free of charge to the student, as well as, any necessary support staff.

Outcomes: 

The main outcome of this program is to offer free and inclusive outdoor recreation programming for students with disabilities. Specific goals for the Adventure Access Program are to promote physical and mental wellbeing, and a feeling of connectedness for participants. Program surveys and debriefs are used to determine if our goals are being met.

Recent Milestones:

On May 6th, 2023, the Adventure Access Program ran a 3-hour indoor climbing program for 8 students who are part of the Redwood SEEDs program.

As of July 6th, 2023, we already have 2 activities planned for Fall quarter partnering with both the Veterans Success Center and the Redwood SEEDs program.
